“I have an event next month and the invitation says that the dress code is ‘’Black Tie”, does that mean I have to wear a long dress?”
It’s a question we get asked time and time again from our clients!! It’s not surprising that this particular dress code still continues to cause confusion for many women – especially since there seem to be differing opinions on what is and is not appropriate black tie attire for ladies.
Conventionally the theory behind the black-tie dress code was for men to wear a dinner suit/tuxedo, with a black bow tie and for the ladies outfit to compliment that look. Despite the quite specific details on exactly what men should be wearing for these events, there are no hard and fast rules for the ladies.
So, what are my options?
Your options may depend on the type of event. If you know other people who are attending the same event don’t be afraid to ask them what they are planning to wear or even ask the host themselves! If it’s an annual event, like a ball, there might be photo’s on the hosts' website or social media of prior year events that might give you a hint of what you can expect other guests to wear.
The Safe Bet
The safest bet for any back tie event is always going to be the long gown!
Timeless, chic and classic! The long gown is the golden ticket to guaranteed black tie dress code success!!
